G-RD002 Japanese colored drawings
Eight colored drawings of Japanese origin. They show mythical air spirits playing musical instruments. The drawings were photographed while still in protective sleeves, which is why the background color is uneven. The faces and bodies of these musicians are done in very light grey, whereas the clothes and other accessoires are boldly drawn and colored.
Images donated by Antiquariaat Kleinood in Amsterdam, edited by Sytske Wijnsma.

G-AA012 Knechtel & Co 695 – Six small repeating designs
Handpainted patterns on grey cardboard, small repeating designs of 37×30 stitches, three with a background in blue, three with black. All designs are with flowers. Most use the same color palette. The beginning of a beautiful sampler, if you like the designs.

F-WM145 Les Modes – 1911 Avril No. 124, Photo Edition
French fashion magazine, 36 pages excluding covers, advertisements and two separate colored plates. Page 16 and 17 are combined to one. The cover and advertisements were detached and may be in the wrong sequence. Many fashion illustrations from the upper class ladies dresses, childrens dresses, jewellery designs, toilet accessories and a silver tea service. Some handbags and the big hats of that era. Designs from famous designers such as Redfern and Poiret. Dresses very similar to those in the film Titanic. No publisher mentioned, possibly some pages are missing.
Scans donated by Peter Ketels, edited by Sytske Wijnsma.

F-IS056 [Heinrich Kuehn] – Corner design with yellow flowers
Handpainted pattern on cream paper, bottom part of the pattern has been cut off. Very probably Heinrich Kuehn or their successor Vereinigte Stickmuster Verlag. Beautiful yellow flowers and green leaves. Some errors in painting have been corrected by overpainting with cream paint that has discolored some in the course of time.
Scans donated by Jackie Isler, from the collection of her grandmother Helen Balmat Gorman, edited and charted by Sytske Wijnsma.

A-MH196 Journal des Demoiselles – Embroidery pattern for dark green wallet or clutch
Single sheet, with a dark green oblong and three parts of embroidery, intended to be folded over and the bottom sides sewn to the middle, with the top remaining as flap. The embroidery is couched gold cord, with what looks like mostly applique of two types embroidered or printed ribbon. Such items were common in earlier ages as portefeuilles. The Rijksmuseum has one from Michiel de Ruyter, with beads and embroidery, from the seventeenth century. Still useful as wallet or clutch or holder for a smartphone.
From the collection of Marleen van Horssen, edited by Sytske Wijnsma.

A-MH096 Journal des Jeunes Personnes – IHS Chair seat
Beautiful chair seat design, with a cross of flowers and in the center an IHS motif – In Hoc Signo. That motif could of course be used separately as well. Large pattern, partially shown (chart is complete) printed on cream paper. Design by Maison Thorel, 153, Rue St. Denis, Paris. The Journal des Jeunes Personnes generally had simpler patterns suitable for younger needleworkers, but this is quite a piece of work.
From the collection of Marleen van Horssen, edited and charted by Sytske Wijnsma.

6-TA001 Anne Orr – Crochet, Cross Stitch and Tatting, Book No. 14
Rare book with designs by Anne Orr. 24 pages including covers, page 12 and 13 combined into one. Page 11, 12, 13 and 14 are printed in color, 11 and 14 containing cross-stitch charts and 12-13 an overview of embroidered items. Copyright 1923. Most items are a combination of techniques: tatting and crochet, filet crochet and embroidery. Some lovely yokes and centerpieces. Most remarkable item: a telephone book cover with an embroidered parrot and the admonition to not be like Polly on the phone, might be suitable for a smartphone cover if done in small stitches.
Scans originally from the tatting website of Georgia Seitz, saved and donated by a member of our forum, edited by Sytske Wijnsma.
