Community Virtual Library Hosts Nonprofit Commons Annual Community Harvest in Second Life
On November 21, 2025, the Nonprofit Commons held their annual Community Harvest in Second Life on the grounds of Community Virtual Library’s Nonprofit Resource Library. The purpose of the annual event is to showcase what nonprofits “bring to the table” for the common good. To many, this annual event has become a virtual world tradition. Nonprofit Commons operates as a community of practice for nonprofits to discover how to utilize virtual worlds, and Community Virtual Library has been a longtime member of this group.

In over an hour’s time, various nonprofit organizations were given five minutes each to make presentations about their respective nonprofits. Types of nonprofits featured varied from educational organizations, to ones focused on social good objectives.

This year also highlighted groups that have a Second Life presence but also are involved in other OpenSimulator virtual worlds. One example was the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium, which has held events this year in Kitely and Wolf Territories grids. Virtual World Education Consortium’s OpenSimulator ambassadors were on hand to present the year in review.

Other efforts that the Community Virtual Library were featured. An example is the Marly Marlena Music Library that was recently relocated to Whole Brain Health’s Inspiration Island, part of the Ageless Mind Project. The Community Virtual Library Marly Marlena Music Library offers original music from Second Life performers as well as concerts.

A big thank you to all who made this year’s event where Community Virtual Library Hosts Nonprofit Commons Annual Community Harvest in Second Life a great success! It showed an example of people working together to inform about ways that virtual worlds can work together for the common good, while also showing how the various organizations can support one another. This helps support gratitude for the missions of one another’s groups throughout the year.
