Community Virtual Library at VWEC Summer of CommunitY

To celebrate the Virtual World Education Consortium’s fifth anniversary, they organized a Summer of Community where various educators or organizations that supported them could showcase what they do. Each of these educators or organizations were allotted a booth space to create an exhibit about their community support involvement. Community Virtual Library appeared in several places as a partner in community with other groups that were also exhibiting as part of the Summer of Community.

Community Virtual Library showcasing the Nonprofit Commons Library

At the main booth for Community Virtual Library, Community Virtual Library showcased support for two of its education and nonprofit partners. One of these in the Nonprofit Commons, which supports weekly community gatherings for nonprofits as well as educators and librarians. Community Virtual Library helps maintain a Nonprofit Resource Center in the regular meeting area for Nonprofit Commons on the Second Life grid. The other group that Community Virtual Library helps support that was showcased in this booth is the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium, for whom Community Virtual Library maintains an information center and the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium has now integrated the Community Virtual Library main building as part of their Virtual Worlds Education Consortium area.

Also featured as part of an exhibit with Whole Brain Health was the Community Virtual Library Marly Marlena Music Library, originally with the Community Virtual Library Building on Cookie but now relocated to Whole Brain Health’s area in Second Life. The location continues to house musical recordings as well as be a live in-world concert venue, building on the idea that music is good for holistic health.

The Summer of Community kicked off with a grand opening as part of the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium celebrating their fifth anniversary. After beginning with some quick words on the midway of how the Summer of Community came together and the individuals that made it possible, an opening dance was offered to celebrate.

The Summer of Community will remain open in Second Life until August 15th of 2026.
