VWEC Gets ALA ACRL Avatars Dressed for Success AT wOLF tERRRITORIES
On June 18, 2025, the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium (VWEC) sponsored an event at the Wolf Territories Grid called “Pack Your Suitcase: Creating a Professional Avatar in Wolf Territories”. The primary audience for this event was librarians from the American Library Association’s Association of College and Research Libraries, and its Virtual World interest group that has monthly outings. With a presentation led by Xenon Darrow, who serves at the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium Ambassador for the Wolf Territories Grid, attendees learned how to control their looks in an OpenSim virtual environment such as Wolf Territories.
As part of this event where VWEC gets ALA ACRL avatars dressed for success at Wolf Territories, participants met up at a central starter location and then transported to the event. Things began with basic body tips. This allowed upgrading from more standard avatars to complex ones where details could be more refined to a greater degree.
Once the more versatile body type was placed, participants learned how to properly put on hair and a basic professional looking outfit.
After this came instruction on the finer points of styling. These includes hair color, facial features, adjustments to body build and much more.
Right now, the Virtual World Education Consortium partnerships coordinating VWEC in OpenSim are concentrated on Kitely as its OpenSim hub, as well as a robust area for learning with our more recent partner at Wolf Territories. The goal is to create a dynamic and inclusive hub between the different areas in OpenSim that emphasizes community-driven collaboration and lifelong learning. This event at Wolf Territories is just one example of what is possible.
