VWEC ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF 4TH ANNUAL STUDENT CHALLENGE in second life AS Metaverse Libraries Sponsors VWEC Student Challenge Awards

Virtual Worlds Education Consortium announced their winners of the 4th Annual Student Challenge in Second Life on April 26, 2025. Instructors and teams of students participate in the event, similar to a hackathon. Metaverse Libraries sponsors VWEC Student Challenge Awards as part of its ongoing commitment to education in the metaverse.

4th Annual Student Challenge Teams

Students are judged on five criteria on a rubric, each of which are on a point scale.

  • Accessible/ Aesthetic Appeal
  • Interaction and/or Immersion
  • Presentation

Metaverse Libraries provided assistance with some of the prizes for the event through assistance from funding and donations, along with Linden Labs, owners of Second Life.

Awards were given for Most Authentic Build, Best Presentation, Most Interactive Build, as well as the top three places.

4th Student Challenge Awards Stage - Wide Shot

The Most Authentic Build was given to Blue Team from Cag University in Turkey, led by Ersin Inal.

Best Presentation was awarded to Maria Magdalena, leading her Ice BeAM Red Team from Suluh Banga School in Indonesia.

4th Student Challenge Awards Stage - Third Place

 

Most Interactive Build went to to Maria Magdalena and her Ice BeAM Orange Team from Suluh Banga School in Indonesia.

Third Place award was given to Maria Magdalena, leading her Ice BeAM Blue Team from Suluh Banga School in Indonesia.

Second Place went to John O’Connor and his Red Team from Dublin Technological University in Ireland.

First Place was awarded to TEDI Team 1 from University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Slovakia with instructors Martin Paucer, Adam Kyster and Monika Cihlarova.

A special acknowledgement was also given for a group of 8-10 year old students who do their work in Luanti (formerly known as Minetest), and their instructors set up a special exhibit in Second Life to showcase their work.
