Community Virtual Library “Demystifying the Directories” for opensimulator Users

Community Virtual Library recently offered the event rescheduled from February 24, 2026 entitled “Demystifying the Directories” on April 16, 2026. An opportunity was provided to meet up at Cookie II on Kitely, where the Hypergrid Resource Library is located. The person who oversaw the informational event was Kreatya Shannon, who serves as the Directory Lead for Community Virtual Library, who has also been active with the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium on Kitely.

Utilizing the previously announced small classroom added in the Hypergrid Resource Library, Kreatya Shannon made a presentation available to explain the three difference directories. These are the educational community directory, the member directory, and the educational landmark directory. The community directory collects groups that have their own dedicated areas for education, the member directory offers information on individual members of the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium whose names are maintained by the Community Virtual Library as available mentors and outreach, and the landmark directory are locations that educators have deemed educational that are available in virtual worlds that do not tie to a specific community group. It is hoped that this walkthrough by Community Virtual Library “Demystifying the Directories” will be helpful to all kinds of people interested in educational resources from academic through lifelong learning.

If you missed this opportunity for an in person presentation but want to talk to Kreatya Shannon, Kreatya Shannon will begin resuming her in-world office hours in Kitely after an extended absence for personal reasons. These are currently on Saturday mornings, 7am to 8am grid time, at the Information Center area in Kitely on Cookie II. The first scheduled office hours date is April 18th.

For those who missed getting to see the presentation but would like to see the presentation slides, they are available in the new Exhibits area showcasing presentations from across the history of Virtual Worlds Education Consortium in OpenSimulator and curated by the Community Virtual Library. The “Demystifying the Directories” presentation is on the upper floor with a variety of presentations from talks given on Kitely. The lower floor specifically showcases past presentations from the OpenSimulator Community Conference.

Future uses for this classroom space where the event was planned will be announced. It will be used to give instruction related to the hypergrid and OpenSimulator worlds and its use for educational, library and archival purposes. This is in addition to the two conference tables that already exist in the main room for larger gatherings.
