Larger repeating designs in primary colors are often used as chair seat and back covers, and indeed cushions or ottomans or other pieces of furniture. They can be executed in cross-stitch but also in wool embroidery or tapisserie. Because of the large repeat, these designs are rarely found on embroidery samplers, as one repeat could cover such an area and take so much time that it would not fit the scale of a sampler. Imagine embroidering this on a rectangle of 50×30 – just not possible. There are embroidery patterns showing small examples of repeating patterns and unfortunately it happens there as well that the sample given of the pattern is not a full repeat, leaving the embroideress or the person recharting the pattern to exercise their fantasy. Another reason for recharting, even if the repeat is complete (as this one is), is that there can be printing errors. As the colors are printed in stages, a small shift of the paper between printing stages means that there’s overlap or missing colors. That’s also present in this pattern. Starting with the central motif and carefully working outward will correct those misprints, resulting in a nice clear pattern to follow.

FUNDRAISING

OUR USUAL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN RAN FROM SEPTEMBER TO DECEMBER and was hugely succesful, I’m so grateful!
OF COURSE DONATIONS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.
IF YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO DONATE, BUT WOULD LIKE TO HELP THE ANTIQUE PATTERN LIBRARY, INTRODUCING THE LIBRARY TO PEOPLE WHO DON’T KNOW OF IT YET, IS VERY USEFUL, SINCE IT BROADENS OUR USER BASE AND THEREFORE ALSO OUR FUTURE DONOR BASE. BLOGS, TIKTOK, INSTAGRAM, PINTEREST, RAVELRY, FACEBOOK, OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA – SHOW OTHERS YOUR FAVORITE PUBLICATIONS AND WHAT YOU MADE USING THEM. OUR WORK IS ONLY USEFUL WHEN PEOPLE ACTUALLY USE IT!
