This publication is aimed at beginners in the craft, as the First Lessons title clearly indicates. One suspects a strong economic link between Penelope Rug Designs and the Needlecraft Limited company, in view of their strong recommendation of Penelope Rug Designs. The designs are shown in small illustrations, the rug maker would have to buy the canvas in the desired size, with the pattern printed on the canvas. The Penelope designs are likely no longer available, but nothing prevents people from buying blank canvas and painting a design themselves, and I’m sure there are tons of other pre-painted designs available, as well as many suitable cross-stitch patterns. In our Berlin woolwork section there are several designs especially for tapestry that can be used for small and medium rugs.
